WEEK 7 - COMPUTER CONTROLLED MACHINING

The assignment of this week is design an object that meets a need that we have within the Fab Lab Tecsup, the need to design a shelf stable and resistant to store some samples and materials that need to be determined location.

Design and Test

For this assignment, I first designed which the software Rhinoceros 5.0 of tester joints to obtain a more precise value in the joints of my project with the objective of defining the tolerances. The tolerances are 19.1, 19.2, 19.3 and 19.4 mms

The next step was to start working with the cutting machine called Shop Bot for this purpose I used the appropriate software called Shop Bot Console. And as shown in the figure should calibrate the X, Y and Z.

A little bit of info: In Peru we can work in millimeters and inches, but because we have standardized tables for cuts that usually are in inch, sometimes we prefer to work with that unit .

After sanding and getting our tester of joints, we began testing different types of joints to see what would be the most suitable for the construction of our project. We define that tolerance in the joint would be 19.4 mm.

Having fixed the joints tolerances we can design freehand our shelf components with precise dimensions with the help of a metal tape.

With Rhinoceros 5.0 software design components of the rack 2D.On the next picture you can see a plane with the measurements for cutting.

The machine SHOPBOT

I started working with the machine Shopbot to cut plywood boards, For this purpose, I used the appropriate software, The Shop Bot Console, and as shown in the figure should calibrate the X, Y and Z axes. Self-tapping screws was used to make plywood boards, stabilizing it during the cutting and assembly of parts

Cleaning and Arming

After finishing the cutting, we sanded the pieces to give them a better finish and finally we assemble all the pieces for a stable, durable and heavy shelf
