assignment
design a 3D mold, machine it, and cast parts from it
I decided to do a big button for my interactive survey that will be used in my final proyect. First, I did my 3d mold in Fusion 360. Below is a video of how I did it.
The steps that I followed were:
1. Design a surface of 2.5 cm of depth.
2. Add a layer of 5mm of depth and substract it from the original surface
3. Add a circle with 20mm of depth
4. Add text that was over the circle with an extrusion of 15mm
In this way, my figure will be a botton with some letters that will be as a hole. I also tried to design it in Rhino as well.
While I was designing it in Rhino my adviser, Aristarco, suggested to make it in the laser cutter with using different layers and I thought it was a great idea. And this is what I did.
In order to machine it I used the lasser cutter, then I realize that I needed to machine it with a router or a Modela... continue to see the real assignment.
I started pasting my pieces with white glue in order to add the layers, and after that I prepare my surface with wax before I added the synthetic resin.
I used a polymer resin in order to make my button.
I added a catalyzer in order to make it faster. Before I added the polymer I added some wax so the material would get stock into the mold.
Then I realize that I need to machine something, which meant that I needed to use the router or the Modela. Then I realize that I needed more wax in my previous mold because the figure cannot come out of it.
Building a button with a star, using the Modela.
