Riyas P.K-Fab Academy 2016

Applications and Implications

The assignment for this week is to plan and document a final project that integrates the range of units covered. We also needed to answer a series of questions about this project.

What will it to do?

It is a music rhythm LED lighting box.It uses a attiny 45 micro controller, the led lighting effect is made by reading sound values from an analog input pin.

who's done what beforehand?

I have seen some similar projects from previous fab academy students as well as other internet sources. Here is some of them:

  • Fab Led by Britov Denis
  • Penta-Tone by Liron
  • City Factory by Kate Balug
  • Music Led Light Box by motadacruz

  • What materials and components will be required?

  • 6mm transparent Acryic sheet
  • Plywood
  • Dimension elite 1200ss ABS filament
  • Attiny 45 and other electronic components, battery,LEDs.
  • Glue gun
  • Aux cable-male to female

  • Where will the materials come from?

  • Mostly from fablab inventory items and rest from local store.

  • How much will it cost?

I would like to keep the cost less as possible, because it is a fun project.

  • 2 X 6mm transparent acrylic sheets ~ $10
  • Microcontroller and other electronics parts ~ $5
  • ABS filament ~ $6
  • Miscellanious items ~ $2

  • What parts and systems will be made?

Except elctronic components all other parts will be made.

    What processes will be used?

  • Computer-aided design- design frame and 3D printing parts
  • Computer-controlled cutting - laser cut parts
  • Electronics design
  • Electronics production
  • Embedded programming
  • 3D printing

  • What tasks need to be completed?

Design and produce the electronic circuit, write a program for it.Design and 3D print a part which is useful to the project.

What questions need to be answered?

  • How to read sound inputs and convert it to rhythm for led?
  • What part to be 3D printed?
  • Will the battery enough as power source?

  • What is the schedule?

First make the frame and then take more time for electronics design and also for learning more programming.Only after completing these, spent time for part to be 3D printed.

    How will it be evaluated?

  • Has the LEDs blinks according to the music rhythm?
  • Has the whole project looks fun and entertaining, also the cost is kept low?
  • Go back
