Fab Academy 2016 Week12

Week12: molding and casting (Apr 20)

Assignments

design a 3D mold, machine it, and cast parts from it

Procedure

  • Production of shaped object
  • Modering for making mould
  • Making mould by silicon
  • Molded using lysine
  • Modify, improvements
  • Good points and bad points by modeling method
  • Production of shaped object
  • Propeller created for the Final Project (drone fabrication)
Using the 3D design of the propeller, which was designed for the first time
    Propeller

  • Modering for making mould
  • Considered the following method for a method for the type created.
  • Creating propeller, silicon pouring container, air drain hole, the pouring opening in the 3D printer
  • Molded product for the mold in the File-A-WAX a (half each) Drilling
  • It was printed the formwork for the molded product in the 3D printer.
    Its structure was complicated.
It will not stick support material I gave up the creation.
    Propeller_and_Box

I made the propeller that drilled File-A-WAX by SRM-20.
SRM-20 could not drill some part. because this propeller is complex structure.

  • Making mould by silicon
  • Used below sillicon.
    Stiffening time : 12hour
    Curing agent mixed with sillicon.
The sillicon pour into drilled mould
And it had dried in 12hour.

  • Molded using lysine
  • I tried 9 times.
At first, Lysine was not mixed, it was inconplete.
Could be stirring to cure within which have tried several times.

It is not possible to pull out the well air for wings is thin. Air reservoir has occurred.
Below the photo on the left is early in the right-hand side is the Latest.
In order to pull out the air reservoir
The air hole was drilled using the Kiri in several places of the type.

  • Modify, improvements
  • Considerable air reservoir occurs in the molding at lysine.
Because air is exiting at the top
It is necessary to provide an air hole in the highest point
of the end of the shaft and propeller.
If point pouring is very thin
It is better to be provided an air hole to
the location where you take into account the flow of lysine.

  • Good points and bad points by modeling method
  • Mold method from a molded product
  • Good point
    Can make same products.
    Bad point
It is difficult to divide the type
  • Mold method from the data to excavate the File-A-WAX
  • Good point
In advance to be able to set the type of parting.
    Bad point
Order to perform the drilling, digging no point would come out.
