Public School Joaquín Turina. Seville
I was talking to her teacher (my daughter is three years old) about the games that children have in
school.
Then came the idea of a play Viking ship as my exercise. The ship would help the children play and the
exercise would not be abandoned in a corner of the Fab Lab.
The teacher was delighted and the ship would be waiting for children to play.
I wanted to do something with the website Thingiverse. It is a repository of 2D and 3D files and I really
like it because it's a very participatory web. I searched the web and found a Viking ship for laser
cutting.
I designed with the software Rhinoceros (barco.3dm) and created a DXF file.
I have worked on this design to fit into of two pieces of plywood panel size 1220x1420 mm and 15 mm
thick.
I also received a “master class” from José Buzón and now I can drive the milling machine TEC-CAM
Fab Lab 3000.
For this I used the program VCarve Pro, I converted to MACH2-3Arcs file (txt file) and I've uploaded
the file directly into the machine via a USB key (1.txt and 2.txt).
I have to say that there has been much to sand and even I have had to resort to a manual milling
machine to make some extra arrangement. But in a Fab Lab have to be many solutions.
This week the children have holidays in Spain and the schools are not open. It's a shame because the
practice had to end at school with children jumping and playing with the boat.
Now I have to return the modified design to Thingiverse. It's something that I love to do.
