GENERAL
I first started to read and take some documents on the net on the fireless cooker
I was first surprised seeing that it was an old system used
in different periods for different raisons
There is a very good blog and 2 books in pdf as a resource for history, receipies ...

WHAT TO DEVELOP ...
See description when we started Fabacademy

That was one of the more difficult part for me
I was passing from only solving/developping the fireless cooker
with a very simple system of temperature control
Or the previous project that I had in mind:
A self-suffiscient device
to give someone a job with very few things to produce or make
At one point I found out that this was what interested me the most and was the most meaningfull.
Some ideas appeared also, like this idea to use things I found in the street
Hacking,transforming objects
Several things failed, some are on the way
I think also that the project is like a way to work I want to use in the futur
DESIGN PROCESS
Imagine a device for self-suffisciency
Calculate, simulate money and time for the new work to come, not more, not less
Define quantity of ressources and size of the device
Look around you for waisted materials
Analyse and reverse ingeneer it
Understand the characterstics of machine parts and materials founded
Adapt the project of device with what you found
Design and produce parts in the fablab to hack, upcycle, hybrydate the objects to make the device functionnal
Go in the street and sell your production(or anything else you can imagine...)
DEVELOPPEMENT
Different steps
ELECTRONIC PART
From verything I read on forums,blog ...
there was always this lack of precision on the timing to cook
and the fact that if the food stayed too long in the isolated box,
there could be a risk for bacteria.
I first wanted to use a wi-fi system to dialog from the device to a phone
After several thoughts,
I decided to stay ith an interface on the self-sufficient device.
So I decided to develop the the contol system with the following components :
Fabduino board fabricated in the electronic assignement
Temperature sensor DS 18B20
Screen LCD 20 x 4 + backpack I2C
Rotary encoder
Relay 5 volt
Battery 12v 14 Ah
Lamp 12v 40 w
I deveopped the code on arduino IDE using poart of code I found, part that I used for the assignments
First step I made a control for the onewire temperature sensor
I used the library onewire.h
I made the temperature appear on the monitor screen
Second step,I made the green and the red led blink with a given temperature
Third step,I added the LCD screen and putted the following informations
WATER TEMPERATURE given by the sensor
VEGETABLE TEMPERATURE calculated trough a formula
TO BE READY temperature of vegetables
Regulate with the encoder(from 30 to 65 centigrade,for exemple)
QUANTITY OF WATER put in the pan
QUANTITY OF VEGETABLES put in the pan
QUANTITY OF TIME boiled before putting it in the fireless cooker
Forth step,I used rotary encoder to enter the different informations
Fifth step, relay and lamp, still to be made
FIRST PROTOTYPE
I first went to see what I could find around to isolate
Different possibilities:woden waist from the vacuum cleaner of the CNC machine,
Feather that I found,cardboard.clothes
I decided to go for cadboard, easy to find in huge quantities
Looking for the pan in my neighborhood, finding one the right size
I also discussed with the people on the market to see if my idea of waste vegetables
was imaginable.Seems possible.
I made a first test with cardboard to see how efficient the isolation was
Loosing half a degre par minute wich is ok for the cooking I intend to do.
Of course it can be improved, for later ...
I discussed with Denis to see how to be able to arrive to what I wanted
He helped me in making the formula to put in the code to know how much time
the soup could stay in the pan.
I made it work using arduino Uno board at first
Then I replace it with the fabduino, all worked fine
Stil to be solved:relay, lamp, box to contain, cabeling
FINAL PROJECT
I worked in the begining with great pleasure on existing device.
Mixer,drilling machine,bike trailer,pan ...
Looking in the street, inpecting the waste to find parts of the project
I felt a little bit frustrated on,the electronic
To few knoledge(yet?)to be able to hack objects
I also made several small parts 3 d printed to exercice in mesuring, designing and printing
Very intersting way to work for me
I made for exemple the base of the trailer with an existing plywood board
and adding somme parts to add on the existing one, just with clips,no screws
Biggest failure is the mixer part,
I tried to make one trhough the cover of the pan
using some parts of a broken mixer and a broken driling machine
I was not convinced, finaly I prefer hand driven solution
On the way if I have time left...
I approached the problem from another side
Made a cover in waterproof plywood CNC milled wich solved the question of the sensor, integrated with a tube
Still to be solved:clamp for the cover to hold it stil when the bike is moving
Mixer with in the same system that salad are dried
Hope the time will be ok ...
I designed the cardboard trailer with the question of waterproofing still unsolved
I am curently testing boat vernish to be spraied .
If it doesn t work,I will surround the cardboard by plywood.
We will see in 24 hours
Plan B is allready envisaged
Fixing the cardboard together was a question.
From the beginning I was obessed with the idea of compression
I was thinking of process to enboss, engrave the form of the pan
in compressed cardboard that you find outside the supermarket, compressed with a metalic sheet.
Kind of love the idea that you see the cardboard and imagine where it comes from
Also this very radical way of seeing the material and the waste.
Stil in my mind for future project.
The cardboard will be compressed by 4 ropes passing through
Tension will be made using the way you block a rope on a boat,
will be placed in the back of the board of the bike trailer
Stil to be solved ; the inside of the box that has to be completly waterproof
I am afraied vernish will no be enough
Maybe resine ?Cover and isolation for the pan(in massive wood,to be used as board for preparing ,cutting bread
Some of the parts
That is where I am for now
Still a long way to go ...
