WHAT DOES IT DO?
Twinkle Tricks is a project which aims to develop a toy with surprising visual experiences for a child specially an autistic child. It will have a star shaped body with 5 wings having lights into them. Twinkle Tricks will have 20 outputs that will repeat in random pattern and will work when you connect them like Magnetic Lego. The inspiration for the project is develop something fun for the kids challenging to create as it doesn't have mechanical buttons or switches
WHO'S DONE WHAT BEFOREHAND ?
Since it is a self designed project there is no direct resemblance or type but the general available toys used during the therapy of autism with there mentors and parents were taken into account for the research
WHAT MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS WILL BE REQUIRED ?
For making the project TWINKLE TRICKS the following materials and components required:
ABS 3D filament
Acrylic Sheet (2mm) Clear
3 blank circuit board ( 50mm*120mm)
Circuit connecting jumper wires 30m
Bread board for testing
Copper strip
Jumper wires
Screws
Soldering station / flux/ soldering wire
RGB lights
Polymer clay
Adhesives (Feviquick)
Fabric Colours/ Spray Cans (Colours- Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple and White)
Brushes (Round - 4,6,8 )
WHERE WILL THEY COME FROM?
All the components are available in the market in my city(Mumbai)
Other raw materials like Acrylic sheet, electronics (fabinventory was sufficient), switches and wires are very easy to buy fro the store.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
I am still in the process of calculating the cost of the toy
WHAT PROCESSES WILL BE USED?
Twinkle tricks is a magnetic lego toy with various lights outputs that will work with different combination system. It will be implemented using I2C communication between the star shaped body and the five wings. It will be able to generate different outcomes like led lights with glow continuous, discontinuous time pattern using different delay, blinking, fading are the current options I am trying to implement. Developing the copper connections is one of greatest challenges that I am facing currently also battery testing phase is going on in the process
Tools/techniques to be used for making of Twinkle tricks
1. 3D Printing
2. Casting
3.Laser cutting
4. Electronics
5. Networking
6.Mechanical Design
WHAT PARTS AND SYSTEMS WILL BE MADE?
All the components will be made myself.
Initially I developed a laser cut paper model tested with that and then moved to 3D printing.
Other components for holding the magnets, battery box and other connectors will be 3D printed.
WHAT TASKS NEED TO BE COMPLETED?
Till the point I have my 3D file ready printed all 12 parts, laser screens ready, test version of the paper model done and electronics is design and milled need to solder and write the code for the same which will improving my networking and interface work and then start with the coding for the final trial.
WHAT QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ANSWERED?
The most important task is the coding and functioning of the magnetic Lego. I have not worked on the final one till now. I wanted to see If I can make a connectors in a better way and can access the more easily.
Another task was to make a shield for the electronics board designed and develop interface between the Lego parts efficiently. I also have to work on the design of the connectors.
WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE?
The most important task is the coding and functioning of the Lego parts . I wanted to see If I can make all five wings function smoothly and repetitively
Timeline
HOW WILL IT BE EVALUATED?
It can be evaluated through its function. The use of electronics on the whole, producing and working with six boards together. The design of the body of the toy and press fit of the screen
Toy will be given to children suffering from autism and checked directly for the response plus the parents, therapist and mentors will give feedback for further improvisation
ASSIGNMENT
1. Propose a plan for dissemination of the final project
