what tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?
Prototype for the project CIAS(Crash Instant Alert System) is completed, with the following functions
- Designing and Laser Cutting of the CIAS module.
- Design and Fabrication of all the electronics.
- Testing the electronics.
- Assembling of the CIAS module and gluing everything up.
- Vehicle installation module with a MPU6050 Gyroscope and SIM800 module is ready.
- Retrieving Angles from MPU6050 and displaying it on the inbuilt display.
- Sending an SMS after detecting the crash using the MPU6050 through SIM800.
- Implementation of decision algorithm parameters for correct crash detection of vehicle.
- Calibrated module.
The following features I remained,
- Sending of location data using GPRS.
- Battery charging circuitry.
- wanted to make a casing using 3D printing or composite but remained
- Alerting the nearest rescue centre (Police or Ambulance).
what has worked? what hasn't?
I am working on a 3D printed casing design, which will be more robust and stable. The acrylic casing is brittle and can break on impact. So, for a long run my current casing won't work.
This is the schedule for my project.
The First row of the activity shows the week.
I am ahead of my schedule and completed most of the part in the previous weeks. I meed to do enchance the code and try to use less memory.
what is the deadline?
The project prototype is functional and ready as shown in the gantt chart above. The project deadline was June 20th. I have completed the project and uploaded the video. I have deployed the prototype on road. My friend from riidl fablab is currently using the prototype. I am currently testing and calibrating the sensors from the feedback I am getting.
How will I complete the remaining tasks in time?
I am working with my fellow team members, from riidl to help me test my prototype. I will complete the on road testing and calibration by end of this week.
What questions need to be resolved?
The question remained is how do I integrate this system into the latest automobile technology and how to push forward the development of such accident alerting systems further into 4wheelers and bigger vehicles? This is only the question remained unanswered till date and hoping to resolve it ASAP.
What will happen when?
I'm planning to install these devices in the vehicles of few of my colleagues and friends get their review on this and further push it forward to install these devices and testing them.
What have you learned?
Being a person from Electronics background I got to apply and extend my knowledge further into the depths of electronics not only this but got to learn new and intuitive things about statistical data analysis. In the whole process I developed my designing skills and working with different automata. I wish to learn more about the scalability of the whole product to improve accident alerting systems in our country and others. I'm pretty confident that in any future project I will be able to apply my skills which I've gained during this project. As looking at the flow of problems in today’s world I believe such skills will help me develop ideas for the betterment of today’s situation.
