18. Invention, Intellectual Property and Business Models:

- Create and document a license for your final project, Slide and Video.

Posted by Alvaro Fernandez La Roja on May 31, 2017

Assignments:

1. Create and document a license for your final project.

2. Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.

3. Prepare a summary slide (presentation.png, 1280x1024)

4. And video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, ~minute, ~10 MB) in your root directory

1. Create and document a license for your final project.

Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project. ---

Safe Square is a developing idea that is materializing in small prototypes without a real practical application, but that approach at its function.

The product ready to be presented and marketed can not be presented without financing and investment, as well as expensive tests with trucks and real ramps. However being optimistic there are some concepts of the project that could be used commercially by companies that are dedicated to this. That is why I would like to choose a license to protect the designs, images and concepts used as well as the programs. I will choose between two types of licenses:

-- CREATIVE COMMONS Attribution - NonCommercial - Non-Derivative (by-nc-nd) --

Link to Creative Commons.

Commercial use of the original work or the generation of derivative works is not permitted. That is, you allow to share and use your work, but not modify it, and in no case for commercial purposes.

This case is the most similar to what I want from creative commons.
With this license, no company can profit or attribute or modify my work.
Recognition of the work would be mine.

And it has a supportive part in which for example the government of a city could use my project to protect its citizens in public places and places.

Advantages: I would be helping to develop the project remotely and accelerate the start-up in the cities.

Cons: I probably will not get rich and someone somewhere would benefit from my idea. (Bollard companies, government builders ... etc.)

-- Copyright with registration in Safe Creative --

Link to Copyright.

Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time. The exclusive rights are not absolute but limited by limitations and exceptions to copyright law, including fair use. A major limitation on copyright is that copyright protects only the original expression of ideas, and not the underlying ideas themselves.

Prevents my work from being reproduced, transformed or published by third parties without obtaining prior express permission in writing from me.

This will allow me to have control of who wants to use my work and I decide freely if can or not.
As well as presenting it to competitions or future congresses of ideas or Crowfounding without fear of someone appropriating with commercial uses.

Advantages:

Greater control over where and in what terms my work is used.

Simplifies the detection and denunciation of copy of my work.

Simple to integrate in the set of other works with equal level of protection.

Accepted by society. Most people understand and use copyright licenses

Cons:

Systems for permission to use works are often slow

It is difficult to create derivative works based on the original work

Lower level of diffusion. By limiting the right to re-reproduce the works, it is more complicated that such works are multiplied by the Internet

I probably will not get rich But I will have more decision making, and it will be clear the type of license.

What does SafeCreative bring to these licenses?

Link to SafeCreative.
Reliable record of creation, authorship and license quickly
It also helps to make easier contact, thanks to a web environment, to those people who want to make use of a concrete work with its author
Facilitate a wider dissemination of works.

Conclusion:

If we believe that works can produce money and we want to have as much control as possible about where and how these creations are used, copyright is a good option. However copyright has a low diffusion on the Internet to the detriment of other forms of licenses more open.

For all these reasons I choose to have my license be copyright.

2. Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.

The first step is to make a finished and resistant steel device and test its ability to react and stop the impact of a vehicle.

Once it is fabricated and tested to work in parallel to improve (design, electronic, programming, cheap).

create a marketing campaign and present the product in social networks, specialized web sites, town halls, security bodies ... etc.

Look for ways to finance such as Crowdfounding and invest in creating a trademark.

To do a crowfounding I will need a very good and complete video where I explain the project very well and transmit security in what is going to be done and choose very well the moment and the marketing with which to launch it.

I can present it on platforms like Kickstarter or the like, as well as advertising on social networks.

Design a system of several connected devices to protect a square with many accesses and integrate it with alarm systems.

A good way to publicize the project and get funding to develop it is to present the idea to a contest, in July 2017 presented it to the Dyson awards, the aim of the contest was to design something that solved a problem.

Unfortunately I was not chosen by the jury.

Imagined and outlined possibilities and described how to make them probabilities.

It could serve to protect the main squares of the cities designing in each one how many devices with what measures and how they want to put.

It is easier to place them in pedestrian zones, the fewer entrances have these areas easier to protect.

You can think of some kind of design change to make the device as pliable as possible, so that instead of being buried under a soft ramp and a portable device in any area of the city.

The simplest use that can be given is for customs, bridges, borders, and entry to protected buildings or enclosures.
In these barriers there would be a control point from where the barriers would be activated or deactivated or they would go according to a semaphore.

As a dystopian use can be placed along the highways as a trap to catch criminals in persecution, these traps would be activated from the traffic control agency.

3. Prepare a summary slide (presentation.png, 1280x1024)

How did I make the slide?

I have experience with adobe illustrator software and with this I proposed to make a panel that will explain the project and the processes used to do it. Synthetically and with good presentation.

Making a slide in illustrator, retouching pictures, placing concepts.

I prepared a folder with all the photos I wanted to put on the slide, and I made an illustrator file with the proportions of the Slide and good resolution.

I tried to always use the same color, green Safe Square and desaturate some photos images so that the composition had the same tone.

4. And video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5,)

Editing a video, With Imovie for my final project.

For the final project I made a video of a minute explaining the process and the meaning of my project.

The software used was Imovie, an IOS software that I use to edit video quickly.

The video is made from photos and short videos made with the phone.

The first thing I did was to order a folder with the information I want to add to the video, photos and videos.

My folder with my photos and videos. I put the photos and videos at the same time in the order I want, adjust the duration of the photos I cut or add other effects like Ken Burns.

If the photos are not well adjusted in proportions, I add photoshop edges of the background color, so that a photo with a white background does not come out and the background of the video is black.

I add subtitles and music that can be trimmed at any time with one click.

Editing process, duration, subtitling, transitions, speed, music ... etc.. when exporting I can choose the compression method and the final export file, by size of the result and quality I usually choose to export with quicktime to mp4.

Exporting with Imovie - Quicktime to 1080 24fps. When I uploaded it to the repository there was a problem with codecs and I could not convert it to html5 format, the solution I took was to upload my video to youtube and download it from an external webpage, that video was already converted and optimized for viewing from page Web.

These are the video of my final project:
