Week 6

Electronic Design

The objective :

Redraw the echo hello-world board and adding at least One LED and a push switch to it.

Tools :

  1. 1.Eagle (software)

  2. 2.PCB copper clad board

  3. 3.Hakko-936 Soldering Machine

  4. 4.UT39A General Digital Multimeter

  5. 5.Cirqoid milling machine

AS first step I downloaded eagle from www.autodesk.com

!! Notes: While installing Eagle in week4 I had a technical issues therefore our instructors advised us to open Eagle through terminal as shown below. Usin this code  (./eagle run )

A. Redrawing:

First of all I downloaded FAB.lbr to use it in Eagle and also downloaded hello world board image to use it as reference.

Hello-world board

The flowing screen shots will show you how I added components and then connected them by any connecting methods (Label or Net) after downloading library from fabacademy .

1.how to open the downloaded library in Eagle

2.how to use the downloaded library in Eagle

3.Type add then enter to open the library and start adding components .

4.Select the needed components and drag them

5.Final connected the components

6.a

6.b

6.As shown in 6.a& 6.b I changed clearance to o.41mm and wire to 16mm ensure the Milling Machine will be able to cut between the routes without any missing traces.( DCR button in the tool bar)

6.the final steep before exporting the traces  is routing the Board, I prefer  the auto routing way inorder to save the time (Autorouter button in the tool bar)

7. Select one of the completed optimized options and end the the job and export fiel.
Download : .brd .sch

C. PCB milling:

1. import the file to Cirqoid milling machine

2.I used double face tape to stick the board to machine

3.1

3.2

3.3

3.4

3.5

3.6

3. the above images  shows the testing and the machine calibration before start milling the PCB to avoid any mistake that may crash the machine or delay the work.

4. start milling  process

C. Soldering:

Before starting soldering I tested the connectivity of my PCB by using Multimeter to ensure that the board is ready for soldering. Then as first steep of soldering I listed down and collected the component which I am going to use in this task. After that I started soldering components with Hakko-936.

Components used in redesigned :

  1. 1.Attiny44

  2. 2.20mhz resonator: for generating clock

  3. 3.10K resistor

  4. 4.100 ohm

  5. 5.1uF capacitor

  6. 6.6mm Switch

  7. 7.LED

  8. 8.AVR ISP

  9. 9.FTDI SMD header

The final redesigned Hello-World Board
