This week's agenda for Fab academy was :
ReDraw the Echo Hello world board
Atleast add one Led and a button
Check the design rules and make it
Eagle : Software to design the electronic board. Download Fab library for obtaining the components to start designing the board. This is how the scematic looks like after you get the components needed to arrange your boardon eagle
After getting all the componenets you need you start designing the connections on eagle.
check the settings on eagle based on your milling machine and mill bit diameter before you export the drawing. This step is very important
And while you export it , its better to save as a .eps file so that the scale of the board is not too big when you convert it to an image. And also export it with 500 dpi to have a good resolution of the board to mill it later.
Then you take the board to fab modules and set the file for milling like how we did for the fab isp.And then load the file to the milling machine.
once the board is milled , you solder the components. the components required are :
Make sure you check the polarity of the LED before soldering. Most surface mount LEDs have a line indicating the cathode - the negative polarity in a green line. Just to be sure you can double check using the multimeter, LED shoud light up in the diode/continuity test mode if the polarity is correct.
Once you solder, you check if all your connections are working before programming the board
In all, It was interesting to put our electronics production learning into this exercise while assembling the circuit board. But what was more interesting was, how important it is to use the right polarities and solder the right componenets in the right way. Adding a button to the board gave us the flexibility to turn on and off the circuit, to understand how we could use the design in order to make the board work for our ideas in the future.
