Week 18 - Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
Steps:
* Choosing a license for your final project
* Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
Choosing a license
Everything should be shared, people could always improve your idea and make it more usable. It is a virtuous circle!
To understand why, I warmly suggest to reed
Makers, The New Industrial Revolution
written by Chris Anderson.
I learned everything reading and using open source's things. I want to share my project in the same way.
I started to read some
open source's options, and I would like to use the Creative Commons' license.
They have different categories of license and for my project I choose:
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License
I considered also all the others licenses that Neil suggest. In particular the MIT/X11
seems a good one, but is specific for software. Maybe one day I'll improove my project or i'll need something to protect my works
and I. Very useful because specified that: THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND...
and seems strange, but you need to be protected even if you're working with all good intentions. Interesting to know that
Opensource.org site content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. I'm sure that
if you mix well this kind of free licence, you can be protect and that is a very good discovery for a designer like me.
Develop a plan for dissemination
First of all, I'll need a GitHub page, in order to organize well the work flow and make it easy to replicate and implement it. The comunity could build themselves the product, helping me to improve and talking about it they will advertise. Once the product will have a good appealing and an enviable technological essence, I would create a viral video to upload on Youtube and Vimeo. Then I may organized a photo shooting in night time and posting photos on channels like Pinterest and Instagram. At a later stage, I would propose it to a vertical blogs as Core77 and Fancy.
