Define the scope of a project:

What will it do?

My final project made a devices - smart fishing float and fishing rod base, this device will help user to know when is the perfect timing to set a hook.

Who has done what beforehand?

My friends and me are fond of fishing but we always spend a lot of time just waiting for fish to eat the bait. We are loosing the chance to caught the fish because we could not handle the perfect timing to set the hook. So I think this device will increase our confidence about fishing.

This video shows we have to keep our mobile phone all the time. I think very inconvenience. And they used bluetooth to communication. But bluetooth does not work under the water. So in my final project I was used RF433Mhz module to communication.

What materials and components will be required?

  • PLA for printing.
  • 45*30mm plywood for CNC.
  • Attiny44A.
  • Machinable wax for mold.
  • Oomoo.
  • ADXL345 sensor.
  • RF433MHz module.
  • LEDs、Battery、Buzzer and other electronic components and cables.
  • Where will they come from?

    Plywood and electronic components form local electronic store.

    RF433Mhz and ADXL345 bought from internet.

    Others are all in fab inventory.

    How much will it cost?

  • PLA:350 NTD for 0.5Kg.
  • Plywood:950 NTD for four feet.
  • ADXL345 sensor:70 NTD
  • RF433MHz module:95 NTD
  • Other electronic components:600 NTD
  • Totally:2065 NTD (69USD)

  • Fishing Float.

  • Satshakit、receiver and LED board.

  • fishing sinker with molding and casting.

  • ADXL345 3-axis digital accelerometer.
  • RF433MHz communication with VirtualWire library.
  • Communication between with satshakit and processing.
  • What processes will be used?

  • Design 3D model in Fusion360.
  • Design software and hardware architecture.
  • Use 3D printer to printout fishing float and rod holder.
  • Use CNC to mill rod base and mold for fishing sinker.
  • Use Oomoo for fishing sinker casting.
  • Combination of all components.
  • Film editing for presentation.
  • What tasks need to be completed?

  • Design 3D model in Fusion360 and printout.
  • Program in processing and interface application development.
  • What questions need to be answered?

  • I spend a lot of time thinking what is a cool topic for final project.
  • Definition whole software and hardware architecture.
  • Measures time accurately with ADXL345 acceleration is difficult for me.
  • What is the schedule?

    To think project topic for around 4 months.

    To design 3D model for one week.

    Make hardware for two weeks.

    Programming and Testing for one day.

    Film editing for one day.

    Final presentation.

    How will it be evaluated?

    To help people the perfect timing to set a hook.

    When the sensor detect acceleration can be changed LED color and send a signal.

    Rod base receive signal can be changed LED color and hear buzzer.

    Communication in fishing pond(around 20m).
