Laser cutting
First I use the sketchup's circle drawing tool. In sketchup I can I can set the number of edges to draw the circle. Then I draw a Hexagonal and triangular, at the same time input the diameter in bottom right corner.
Then I use of linear tools (Shortcut key " L") to do a lot of try
At last, I use the push tool “ P " to turn 2D graphics into 3D model.
Export the graphic shape as DWG from the SketchUp, then import the DWG file into AI.
After that, layout them for print.
Make sure all the line is: Color: R(255) G(0) B(0), Weight:0.01
Laser Cutter: Epilog Laser Mini 50w, work area: 600mm x 300mm
Material: 5mm Cardboard
Mechanical setting: SPower 40 / Speed 30
I designed the triangular and hexagonal shape of the object. I can combine the triangle with the triangle, hexagon with the hexagon, or mix them.
Through the free combination I can get different shapes of objects, Such as a stand support or a frame for something. Like a toy that I played as a child in China.
Parametric Design
Because we need to use the laser cutting machine for export, so I choose to do the parametric design by sketchup. In the sketchup, the parametric design can be realized by the related tools.
First draw a hexagon, or something else, then right click, establish the association group
Copy the graphics you draw
Double click one of them to enter the edit state. This time, you can change the shape and the size, or enter the value in the bottom right corner to change the proportion or size. When you change one of the values, the values of the other graphics also changed.
Try to change the shape of a hexagon
Turn the hexagon into line
There is another reason I use sketchup that it can directly export DWG files, very convenient.
Set the line data in the AI, and prepare cutting.
Use 4 mm MDF to Output
Use 5 mm cardboard to Output
products
By changing the values, to Output in different sizes or shape.
Vinyl Cutter
Our school used a Solidoodle printer. As you see, the appearance is very simple, even without logo. So I decided to give it a LOGO.
I think the text logo is good, so I downloaded a lots of art font from the Internet, and find a suitable one, BM tube.
Then I input "Solidoodle" in illustorator CS6(AI) to make the date.
We use the Roland CAMM-1 GX-24, set the cutting power at 120gf.
Fixed paper and blade, then start cutting.
At last, I use the transfer tape to transfer the text on the frame of the 3Dprinter.
