Week 5
3D scanning and printing.
The assignment is design and print a 3D part. Actually, I decided to make something to hold the special tools in the lab, like this part below.
I took the measurements of the part i wanted to clone and also the the dimensions of the Tool to customise a fiting place for it.
Download the solidworks part or the STL file

Because the tool will have to slide through the part i tested the fitting rules of the printer by printing a simple fit parts. I left 0.5mm offset, but after printing i noticed the parts fit tightly. I incresed the offset to be 0.8 and it was good.
To 3D print the part i imported the STL part into the makerware. Used standard profile with support on.
Exporting file
I exported the .x3g file and put it on the printer SD card.
I used kinect to 3D scan a person. The software i used is skanect. You should connect the kinect before opening the software and make sure to install the drivers for the kinect first. The drivers are available on microsoft website.
From the prepare tab select Body and the dimensions for the body.
Hit record and move around the person to scan him. Don't move too fast because the software will lose track of the body.
After scanning i exported the scan into a STL file.
I opened the STL in meshlab to check the model.
