It was very hard choice to choose a thing to make a mold design for it, but finally it hit me when I was listening to my brother playing "Oud", which is a strings oriental music instrument
This is how the Oud looks like
I started designing by using 123D design as usual, I started by a sphere and completed by editing and subtracting from it till it reached the oud shape
After i designed the Oud handle I noticed that this design supposed to be made by a subtractive machine which make it hard to do some designs, as the drilling head can't reach some points, I had to do minor changes in the design.
this video will help you a lot in making the process
And here is the wood block after the machining
The main problem that I faced is that i want to make a chocolate Oud cast, so I had to use a food safe material for my mold, I searched for a food safe silicone or rubber but i didn't find one here in Egypt, so I had to create my own food safe one :D
At the beginning I thought of using egg white and heat to make it harden to be my mold, and as you can see it failed a big time when I tried to heat it in the microwave :D
I even tried to to boil it in water, but the problem is that the heat didn't reach the inner part of the mold so it remained fluid
I tried after that to make my mold from the salt dough, which is an art used dough made out of oil, water, salt and flour as you can see
I melted the chocolate after that and pour it into the mold....
I find out that the main problem in salt dough that it harden when you cool it, and that will make it hard to take out your cast, I could break it to get our the chocolate, but I wanted my mold to be usable for several time
I get back to searching for a mold materials and I thought of using Gummy Bears or "Gelatine" as a mold, it is rubbery, started as a fluid and it need high temperature to melt
I found this video that teach how to reshape the gummi bears of jelly cola as I want
I added some water to the Jelly cola and a 6 tea spoon of Gelatin, and I heated it slowly while shaking the gelatin
After that I put a light film of oil on the synthetic wood to avoid sticking of gelatin on it, i pored the solution, and put it in the fridge to chill
and here is my food safe gelatin mold, as you can see it is elastic like silicone molds so you can separate it from the cast easily
I melted the chocolate and put it in my mold
I noticed that you have fill the mold just to the edge to avoid what happened with me
