JANAKI {{JÁHN-AH-KI } }

Who's who?

I'm Janaki, an artist from the US. I design participatory experiences for public spaces, galleries, and performance venues, using both technology and craft. My work brings together objects, stories, and spaces in a way that helps people experience familiar things newly.

The tutors for our Fab experience are Ferdi Meier and Santi Fuentemilla. Guillem Camprodon, Martin Seymour, Ricardo Valbuena, Anastasia Pistofidou, Ingi Guðjónsson, and Alex Dubor all helped us in the labs at IAAC. Luciana Asinari helped manage the Fab Academy. Tomas Diez gave critiques on final projects.

What's this about?

This is a participant site that I am making while enrolled in Fab Academy. Fab Academy a 5-month boot camp in digital literacy. We have lectures every week by Professor Neil Gershenfeld at MIT (they are all online here.) The labs themselves are all over the world. I'm working at the Barcelona urban lab at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). IAAC maintains another lab, the Green Fab Lab, in Colserolla Natural Park on the north edge of Barcelona. The two labs have a symbiotic relationship: one is an architectural research center; up the hill in the forest is the nature research center. This hand-in-hand partnership allows for prototyping some really beautiful concepts about how the city of Barcelona can be a more integrated part of the land that sustains it.
