13. Applications and implications

Assignment

Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered,
answering:
- What will it do?
- Who’s done what beforehand?
- What will you design?
- What materials and components will be used?
- Where will come from?
- How much will they cost?
- What parts and systems will be made?
- What processes will be used?
- What questions need to be answered?
- How will it be evaluated?
Your project should incorporate - 2D and 3D design,
- additive and subtractive fabrication processes,
- electronics design and production,
- microcontroller interfacing and programming,
- system integration and packaging
Where possible, you should make rather than buy
the parts of your project
Projects can be separate or joint, but need to show individual 
mastery of the skills, and be independently operable

What I did

  • What will it do? I’m going to create a plant that I can move by the heat on my hand palm

  • Who has done what beforehand? There are several attempt of integration of plant and electric board. For example, MIT media lab published the followings

  • these are ideas that using plant as a senser and as a actuator.
  • What materials and components will be required? So far, I planned to use the followings: MDF, PLA

  • Where will they come from? How much will it cost?

    • At Fablab Kannai
      • MDF(2.5mm): 400 JPY($3.68)
      • ATTiny 44: 89 JPY($0.82)
    • Peltier cell: TEC1-12706 , 900 JPY($8.29)
    • Servo motor: GWSV0008A, 900 JPY($8.29)
    • Battery box: BH-341-2A150MM, 70 JPY($0.64)
  • What parts and systems will be made?

    • Box: MDF
    • Sensor: Peltier cell
    • Actuater: Servo motor
    • Battery: battery box + AAA battery
    • Board: ATTiny 44 with arduino IDE
    • Plant: 3D printed(PLA)
  • What processes will be used?

  • What tasks need to be completed? So far I created the board but input and output aren’t connected. So it will be needed that integrated two code on Arduino IDE. Also, I need to design outside. I’ll design it with fusion 360. Finnaly, I need to design 3D desgin for the plant part.

  • What is the schedule? As of the end of May, I will process the tasks above every week.
