Composites


In this week I studied different types of composites materials and resine too.Composite is mixture of the combination of several different substances without chemical reaction.It will use many applications like ship industies,dental industries etc.

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a document that contains information on the potential hazards (health, fire, reactivity and environmental) and how to work safely with the chemical product. It is an essential starting point for the development of a complete health and safety program. So, in my case I am not using any chemical product in my assignment. I will make pot for water by using jutt and cement composition. I was using heat transfer science for cooling purpose.

Actually, I will make different composition of cement with jutt.It will helps to decrease temperature inside the tank.

Firstly, I was designing mold by using solidworks software.

Then , I was cutting mold files by using laser cutter..but in this case I forgot to select proper material for the mold.I used Mdf sheet instead of acrylic material.The problem comming during demolding the assembly of composite. Cement needs water after four hours otherwise it will get dry and result is it decreases strength of cement. Mdf is not sutaible material for this kind of processes.

I was using weighing machine for fixing proportion of cement in jutt for different layers.

In this assignment I was using first time spot welding i.e, outer mold and I used aluminium sheet as mold material.

This is assembly of inner mold. It will create hollow portion inside the pot.

I did compressing. Which can removes air inside the mold. I was using inner mold with heavy weight for compression process. I was pressing with force on outer mold . Outer mold is enogh strong to take this load because of spot welding. The material which is cement and jute can compressed and takes mold shape i.e. circular shape. Due to compression extra cement get removed by outside. I was using extra amount of water inside the cement. That one also removes from the mold. The outer mold was taking purposely gap at the inner side. When I compress that material inside, the extra material can easily remove from that gap. I was mixing jutt in cement in forms of three layers.After six days I was demolding my composite.

In compression I was not using water bagging technique because I was not using resin for my composite. I was squeezing the cement and jute mixer. In general we can use water bagging for making uniform level of resin which we use in our composite. And squeezing removes extra resin of that solution.

I was facing problem during demolding the composite due to water. The Mdf material gets stuck inside the cement.I used plastic paper for support to protect mdf material. But it fails.! Mdf mold was brocken into number of peices due to bulkiness. I was solving this problem by using hand cutter.
