Moulding and Casting


In this week my task was to design mold by using 3D modelling and to study different type of material for the mould.After that use that mould for the casting. We did group assignment for understanding the various mold material properties and there mixing proportions too.When we use Insta mold material for molding perpose you should know there proportion that is 1:3 .This proportion is good for mixing water and insta mold.

In this image we measure the weight of instamold powder and water for solution preparation.

Also we study and try rubber solution for the molding.When we need flexible mold; rubber is the best one.But it takes 4 days for drying.

When we talking about hydrostone material,it is good when it sterlize equally.Otherwise, air bubble is the another problem occurs.

We use old wax mold for the trial.this is the rubber solution trial which took 4 days for the drying/solidification.

Here I decided that I will make Phoenix bird symbol.I was using Solidworks softerware for designing that symbol.

- When your design is ready,then that file you should convert into the .stl file format.

- Then that file you can call into the modella by selecting mesh format.

-Then by selecting "make rml" option you can select 1\8 end mill tool. I use rough cut for the mold. I haven't use finish cut because there is no need of finish cut. It machines well in rough cut. After that convert that stl format into the png image.And further procedure as I mentioned my previous assignment.

After milling the wax mold looks like this! Then I fill rubber solution for rubber molding. I was taking siicone rubber solution as 100:1 ratio to the resin composition. I was measuring weight of silicon and resin by using weighing machine. Resin lable itself told me what amount of resin I use in silicon solution. But it will takes 4 days for drying.After that I will fill another material as a cast material

The mold(positive) looks like this after milling through modella machine. Then I pour silicon rubber solution inside the mold.

After 4 days I was demolding the selicom rubber. The image itself says that there is formation of bubble. Then I used glue gun for fixing that pourosity. Then I measure weight of hydroston powder. I read coutions mentioned in that cover. Then I was adding water 32gm for 100 gm hydrostone powder. Don't add water in power.

You can slowly add powder in water. When we mix water in powder the solution get heated.You should handle it safely by using hand gloves. Steer it gently by using mixer. Here we made mixer like this....

I pour material inside the mold with taking care of no bubble formation.If bubble formed inside the casting material it would damage the connectivity of material and cavity destroyed the hole finished product.
