Textile inspired design with Adobe Illustrator for laser-cut

Drawing textile structure with Adobe Illustrator(for laser-cut print)
For future reference svg nest.

I have a BFA in Textile. I've always been interested in traditional craft and material construction. I wanted to explore in-dept in different types of textile techniques using 2D computer modeling and laser cutting.

Designing Press-fit stool for CNC and 3D Printer using Fusion 360 + Rhino

Inspiration.

First time using Fusion 360, I wanted to try different programs to recreate the joint.

I got tired and just did this in Rhino!
Instead of three part joint. I made it into 4 part joint, because at this point I thought we could only CNC in one direction.

4 parts joints

Learning Rhino/Grasshopper

Learned about algorithms, math + logic function, and started with curves and surface.

Online class Up and Running with Grasshopper by Chris Reilly_ Lynda.com

Notes(from online class):

Algorithm = process, explaining how to do something.
Data = plain unorganized fact (becomes information when it is processed, structured, or contextualized)
- Qualitative = color, shape, or size
- Quantitative = length, volume, or area

Grasshopper data = geometry or locally define data
Data Flow = in and out of the component part of an algorithm
Parameters = store data
Components = process data

Math + logic function
Data Matching
: longest list, shortest list, *cross reference(holistic, diagonal, coincident, and etc.)

Scalar = add, subtract, compare numbers
Operators = basic algebraic function on two inputs
Math < operators < component
Sequence = generating list of numbers.

The Second Meeting:
Computer-Aided Design February 1, 2017 10pm~2am(Seoul)

Terminology(from fablab class)

2D, 2.5D design

Raster(Krita, photoshop, and etc.)
Pixel
Vector(Inkscape, Illustrator, and etc.)

3D design

Surface 3D Model(ex. sketchUp ) line base to create surface.
Solid Base (ex. 123D fusion, solidework)
Parametric 여러 개의 독립적 변수를 사용한 공식에 의하여 정의되는 직선이나 곡선 또는 표면 등의 그래픽 데이터를 처리하는 것으로서 컴퓨터 지원 설계(CAD) 시스템에 쓰이는 기법의 하나. [네이버 지식백과, 컴퓨터인터넷IT용어대사전, 2011. 1. 20., 일진사}

Homework

o - Model experimental objects/part of a possible project in 2D and 3D software
o - Show how you do it with words/images/screenshots
o - Include your original design files
