This week's assignment is to propose a final project that integrates the range of units covered.

Final Project

My final project involves fabricating an automated toy box. Lets brake it down through a number of questions:

what will it do?

This is a box that lets the child have fun controlling how the box opens and closes as they keep their toys inside.

who's done what beforehand?

As I was thinking of this I researched and found an instructable by Grathio on a secret knock detecting door. I found that to be an interesting concept and perhaps more effective than using vocal audio to trigger actuators in my box

what materials and components will be required?

how much will it cost?

Getting all these done will cost approximately $20 or less

where will they come from?

for my case, most of the components are part of the fablab's inventory and are currently available in the lab.

what parts and systems will be made?

The following parts will be done in the lab;
I will need to design and fabricate the box
I will fabricate a rack and pinion
The satshakit will be fabricated and used and
labeling will be done for aesthetic purposes

what processes will be used?

  • Computer-Aided Design - the box, electronic casing, rack and pinion
  • Computer Controlled Cutting - lasercutting plywood and vinyl cutting stickers
  • Electronic production - fabricating the satshakit board
  • 3D Printing - Electronic case,rack and pinion
  • Electronic design - circuit board for the project
  • Input device - piezo transducer
  • Output device - servo motor control
  • Embedded programming - To program the board

Laser cutting to create the box

what is the schedule?

laser cutting and fabrication of the box - 1 day
Desinging and 3D printing - 1 day
circuit design and fabrication - 1 day
Desing and Vinyl Cutting - 1 day
Programming and debbugging - 1 day
Assembling and testing- 2 hours

how will it be evaluated?

Evaluation will be done by completion of task related and working of the project
