Week 07: Make Something Big

Time to work LARGE SCALE

I just recently moved into a new apartment, and with this new empty living space, I needed to fill it with new furniture. For this week's project, I decided to utilize the shop-bot in studio and make an ergonomic chair as the first furniture project.

Using the contour of the shape the body has of sitting back in a relaxed form in a chair/seat, I sketched out a form and decided how to make this into a stable structre. Using a similar technique I had been utilizing in some of my table tops I had constructed for my apartment, I created pockets for horizontal slats to fit into the facades of the chair.

I want to either make it a lounge chair or a more upright, casual chair.

Designing:

Quick google image search ("contemporary modern chair"), Looking at a few chair designs for inspiration, I desided on my design. I carved out some slots for strips of wood to slide in and connect 2-3 facades together to form the chair.

Update: The most recent iteration was split into 2 parts and can create 2 different chair forms.
