Week 18: Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income.
Assignment:
This week is about invention, intellectual property and income. In every successful project there is a plan that is well organized. Moreover, I have to go through various licenses, acquire information and learn about it.
License?
License is about having an authority or permission for a certain activity. It could be given by an acceptance of two parties for an agreement for a total empowerment or n approval permission recognition certification.
Invention
My invention could assist any citizen, different age group, general public and family. Most of us if not all fail to remember or slip some duties from their memories, they need to be able to remember their daily routine responsibilities. The invention will solve and resolve that issue. It is a small object that has a reasonable price that is portable and could be kept in any place. We can set the reminder on a specific time that will let a message pop up. I am interfacing this device with my phone via blue tooth, for that we can also set the message and time from it.
Intellectual Property
Intellectual property is about exposing the establishment and formulation of creations and development of different intelligence and creativity of the mind. Such as, invention, literary and artistic works, symbols and designs, names and images used in commerce. IP is protected in law by, for example, patents, copyright and trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create.

Income
There is a belief that my mother taught me since I was a child which is that creativity and business can not be aligned at the same time because both have different way of thinking, once money is involved in creativity then the inspiration and devotion will vanish; but, it is always a plus if AFTER achieving your passion if someone could benefit from.
Different types of licenses
1- MIT license
2- GNU General Public License (GPL)
3- Mozilla public license version 2.0
4- Apache License
5- Creative Common (CC)
Exploring the different types of licensing models
-The Creative Commons licenses
It constructs a structure for the traditional ( all rights reserved) setting that is created by the copyright law. The licenses and tools give a clear regulated method from exclusive own creators to massive powerful associations to allow a dominate control over their innovative work. The combination of their tools and users to share.
- License design and rationale
All creative commons licenses have many important feature in common. Every license helps creators- it is called licensor's if they use our tools- retain copyright while allowing others to copy, distribute, and make some uses of their work-- at least non commercially. In order to choose creative common license there are a couple of questions that has to be answered:
1- Do I want to allow commercial use or not?
2- Do I want to allow derivative works or no?
Creative Common license is made up of many components/elements called attributes, each of which adds some sort of restrictions.
1)Attribution
CC BY
The license always give the credit for the original creation. It let others deliver, remix, make improvement, adjust and build upon your work, even commercially. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.
2)Attribution-shareAlike
CC BY-SA
This license allows the same allowance as the attribution CC BY, in fact the inventor or founder has to let his work get common with others. But the original creator has to get the recognition for their new development. This license is often compared to copy left free and open source software license . So that any derivative will also allow commercial use. Wikipedia is using the attribution share alike license.
3)Attribution- NoDerivs
CC BY-ND
This license allow for redistribution commercial and non commercial, it has to run to whole and the credit itself is for us.
4)Attribution-NonCommercial
CC BY-NC
This license restriction from the commercial use f the creation. If anyone want to develop they are free to choose their own license.
5)Attribution- NonCommercial-ShareAlike
CC BY-NC-SA
This license allows the work non commercially to make improvement, enhance and reinforce. As long as the credit itself goes to ourself and license their new creations under the identical terms.
6)Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDeivs
CC BY-NC-ND
This license can not be used commercially, neither could be adjusted nor replaced. It is the most limited license between the previous ones that does not allow you to clone or share the original work but can only allow others to download and share the information with others.
Choosing a license for my project
I prefer the CC BY-SA license for my fab academy project documentation because it allows to share information and is an open source. Moreover, it satisfies the terms and condition I listed therefore I chose creative commons for all the documentation media etc. Be careful when this license is chosen and released you can not simply change it neither you can change your mind you mind in the future. It does not work that way, it is very straight and rigid.
