In week 03 we had to do 3D scans with all possible methods. We tested the 3dCatch mobile application, the XBOX Kinect and lately the scaner sense wich was recently bought at the FabLab Esan. We realized that all these methods generated some kind of "hollow" in the scan making the image incomplete and we had to use programs like adobe remake to edit that scan.
This is how we agreed that what we wanted to do was a support that allowed us to scan the objects from all possible angles. (Obviating the base) First we did many drawings of how it should be or operate this machine.
On the way we find two important and perhaps decisive things for our machine. We found a catalog of international standards for the export of fruits. It is defined whether it is of good quality or not for export according to its shape and external appearance. We thought that the scanner could have application in this sector since in a few minutes we could invent different samples of the product and send it via email to potential buyers. Not only that, but also this could expand the export of more fruits and benefit more farmers in our country, Peru. The research is in this link.
We also found a scanner model that was close to what we wanted to do. it had a turntable and a bow where to move the camera. This project is a scanner that uses laser and gives a rotation of 360 degrees (despite not using the bottom). We want to work with the camera of a cell phone to make the machine more accessible to anyone in any part of the world. We realized that we did not need to give the 360 degrees but only a quarter of a turn to take the superior photographs and thus save time of movement.
