01. PRINCIPLES and PRACTICES, PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Assignment

This weeks assignment was fun, though i haven't finished it yet. I had to make my own webpage, upload it throug a git tutorial and describe my potential final project.
If I look at the status of the page right now I wouldn't be encouraged to say that I've made a great progress, nevertheless there's a reason.
I started to write the code for the page with the help of my tutors, peers and tutorials on the web. It was fun but I didn't get to make the page look like I wanted since my knowdlege was still pretty basic. So after fooling around for a couple of days (and while I was trying to define my final project) decided to try out some templates.

Templates are great, and after deciding that I'd try out a couple I started filling the fields with the information I wanted. But I wasn't happy with the result so I decides to start from scratch and make it by myself (that's why we're here, aren't we?). So what you can expect is this layout to change soon enough as I'll design it again.

This was me this morning (1st Feb 2017) starting again.

Work through a git tutorial.

Been there done that. That wasn't very difficult to understand, followed the tutorials and managed to finish it during class.

Here's a screenshot during the gi tutorial

Build a personal site in the class archive describing you and your final project.

Here's another tricky part, since I don't know yet what I'll be able to accomplish it's difficult to shape the scale of the final project. As it is difficult to choose the view of what you want to do (at least it is for me).
Do I want to make a prototype of a product for later manufacturing?
Do I want to make a piece that visually depicts information otherwiseis difficult to understand, shall i go more on the artistic side of it?
Should my project try an have an impact on the way that an existing good is produced by changing it to a more sustainable way of making?

As you see I have a lot of doubts and still try to develop ideas in a couple of directions at least. Here's a list of things that are interesting to me and that could be part of my final project:

  • Turbine like engine that uses waterflow to store energy in a battery (enough to charge a phome) --> Already exists
  • The use of kinetic energy that we generate in each one of our steps, use the pressure we generate on the sole of a shoe to get power
  • Display/Installation that uses lights to show the wastage of food in our everyday life (lights inspired by the store CyberDog in London)
  • Something that flies, I just can't help it
  • TRy to implement a couple of different projects earlier developed in Fab Academy, that could be a system to filter water with indoor growing and getting energy from a self-sustained source for the light
  • I was amazed last friday by the presentation of one of my peers about soft-robotics, that's cool. May want to introduce them somehow in the projec
  • Something that is capable of displaying big amounts of data in real time about contamination, water quality... Or other data gathered for example with the Smart Citizen project.
  • And many more...
  • You can expect this page to change pretty soon and come check me out see what I'm to with my final project.
Or you could send me an e-mail at daniel.zuhlke@gmail.com if you have something to say!
