My name is Médéric, I am 34 years old and I work as a technician in a communications department in an large firm. My background is mainly in Archives and Video. I live in Lausanne (Switzerland). My hobbies include reading and writing (literature and theater), cinema, History, making things, learning new skills, philosophy (Academic and Philosophy for Children – P4C).

Why I did the Fab Academy ?

I learned about Fablabs while watching Neil Gershenfeld’s first TED Talk on Youtube. Since then, I have been following the Fablab movement with an immense interest. The work done at the CBA at MIT, especially “turning data into things and things into data” resonates with me very strongly. My impression is that we are at a crossroad right now (climate change, our mode of production and consumption, our institutions, etc.) and thinking about the way we produce things and how we deal with those with after they proved themselves useful seems to me very important. The Fablab movement answers these questions very pertinently.

I am looking forward to developing the power to create new things, thus bridging imagination and reality. And since there are many things I’d like to see built which – as far as I know – are not being built, I think the best way to remediate to this is to build them myself. The Fabacademy is the “perfect storm” of ideas, skill learning and network building and I am delighted to be swept away in that manner.

Why I did the Fab Academy ?

The very first reason is that I wanted to work into bigger network outside my Fab Lab. With the Fab Academy we feel very strongly the concept of thinking globally, fabricating locally. This approach gives you the ability to be supported or support anybody for instance in Norway, Egypt, or India. This dimension is incredibly strong, human trough all of the world using technology for solving local problems. The second reason was to get better knowledge in electronic field, and the program at Fab Academy fulfilled in an awesome way. I'm very excited to start the Fab Academy this year!
