Assignment

This week assignment is about invention, intellectual property, and income. The goal of this assignment is to develop a plan for dissemination of our final project.

Invention

My clean bot is a friendly and functional cleaning robot. It is having mainly three parts a mechanical body and a sensor cum controller part and finally the software part. I am very happy to implement the technologies which I have earned during this academy to make such a robot. This is a prototype model and I wanted to add some modifications to it especially in its body design. I am very much interested to spread what I earned from this fab Academy to my youngsters also.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual property refers to the creations of the mind ,inventions; literary and artistic works; and symbols, names, and images that are used in commerce and other educational purposes. Intellectual property is divided into two categories:

Industrial Property includes patents for inventions or creations that are done, trademarks of the components or products industrial designs and geographical indications.

Copyright covers literary works (such as novels, poems and plays), films, videos and music. It also an emphasis on the artistic works (e.g.., drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures).

Intellectual property rights are like any other property right. They allow creators, or owners, of patents, trademarks or copyrighted works to benefit from their own work or investment in a creation. These rights are outlined in Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which provides for the right to benefit from the protection of moral and material interests resulting from authorship of scientific, literary or artistic productions.

A patent is an exclusive right ranted for an invention – a product or process that provides a new way of doing something, or that offers a new technical solution to a problem.

Patents provide incentives to individuals by recognizing their creativity and offering the possibility of material reward for their marketable inventions. These incentives encourage innovation, which in turn enhances the quality of human life.

Licensing

List of Licenses that can be used or taken by any individual/ company/group:

  1. MIT License

  2. Apache License

  3. Creative Common (CC)

  4. Mozilla public license version 2.0

  5. GNU General Public License (GPL)

License for my project

I am a great believer in open source software and hardware. I plan to share my final project trough this creative commons license. For my final project I have chosen this license from the creative commons website: This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International License.

bluetooth

Creative Common license:

CC is a copyright license that allow the free distribution and author can choose what it can be used for (commercial or others) even though it can be share, use and rebuild the same.

A Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created. CC provides an author flexibility (for example, they might choose to allow only non-commercial uses of their own work) and protects the people who use or redistribute an author’s work from concerns of copyright infringement as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license by which the author distributes the work.

Most creators, educators, and scientists are not in fact lawyers, we also make the licenses available in a format that normal people can read — the Commons Deed (also known as the “human readable” version of the license). The Commons Deed is a handy reference for licensor and licensees, summarizing and expressing some of the most important terms and conditions. There are several types of licenses available under creative commans For my project, i am selecting Attribution and Share Alike

Attribution (by)

All CC licenses require that others who use your work in any way must give you credit the way you request, but not in a way that suggests you endorse them or their use. If they want to use your work without giving you credit or for endorsement purposes, they must get your permission first.

ShareAlike (sa)

You let others copy, distribute, display, perform, and modify your work, as long as they distribute any modified work on the same terms. If they want to distribute modified works under other terms, they must get your permission first.

PLAN FOR DISSEMINATION

As I mentioned before, this project is a porotype model, so the idea is to give some improvements to my clean bot so as to make it more effective and attractive. I am planning to make workshops regarding the making of such robots, thereby allowing kids and grownups to understand how to create their own robo devices from scratch in a fun way. If anybody who wish to reproduce the clean bot they can get all the details of developing it from my fab Academy page and also any queries regarding this can be cleared over mail through safwanck@outlook.com

Dissemination summary

  1. Make first prototype of the project and take some photos.

  2. Create a web page, with all kind of details about the robot. (Web responsive with mobile version).

  3. Conduct workshops and training on making robots to the public.

  4. Gather feedback and make next version of the project.

  5. Use RSS, Twitter, Facebook, google plus, and so on advertising my project.

Income

This an Open project so people can download and fabricate wherever I’ve never thought of it as an income source but an academic experiment that can guide me to new things. Spreading what I’ve done in social media has let me know what people thinks about it and also it has let me know if they want it.
