Introduction
"Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce" -
WIPO-
Both global and local laws protect inventors. Mainly, there are three ways to commercially and legally bound a project:
.
patent
.
copyright
.
trademarks
EMI Intellectual property
For my final project EMI I mainly looked at the different kinds of copyright licenses, particularly at free and open sorce. There is a slight difference in between the two terms. I found
this essay quite interesting. Also, not all the copyright licenses cover for both hardware and software.
Since Creative Commons is one of the most used, I decided to look deeper into it. On their
website you just need to answer two simple questions about the project you want to protect and then they reccommend the best type of CC license for you.
. Allow adaptation of your work to be shared? Yes, as long as others share alike
. Allow commercial use of your work? No
Eventually I was recommended the Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike license. I decided not to allow for commercial use of my project because in the way I present it is a plug in of a patented machine.
