To modeling my final project proposal I decidetd to experiment different type of sowftware.I'm used to different CAD, but Rhino is my favorite because it is very flexible; in fact there are a lot of plug-ins like grasshopper (a computational modelling tool); furthermore allow to use scripting mode in RhinoPython. So for the first concept version I have decided to use Rhino for modelling, inkscape and Gimp for vector and raster illustrations.
The aim for the Final model will be to have all the model in
Solidworks, so I'm starting to modelling some peaces
in parametric mode like the Archimedean Screw with Grasshopper and Solidworks;
in this way I can try the strengths and limitations of both.
Granulo is a big plastic pellet extruder, to use it with the 6 axis robot arm. For this project I was inspired from:
Archimedean Screw second version to mold and casting with Zamak instead of to use the Auger bit.
Drawing the extruder in Rhino took some time bat wasn't soo difficult. I have started from primitives shapes and after I have modified these shapes with the boolean operations. For some peaces I have drawn the 2D and after extrude these.
The Auger bit and the Archimedean screw have took more time and complex operations like the sweep 1 rail of a section.
After modelling the NURBS object I have converted it in a mesh for upload the model on sketchfab and allow to wiev the model from the web page; I have exported the extruder at low definition only for a first look.
After the Rhino session, I have started to experiment with Solidworks. The first look was a little bit triky, because I'm used to Rhino or Autocad that have a different approach, close to the hand technical drawing. Anyway following this torial I was able to drawn a first draft of Archimedean parametric screw with solid work.
The my final experiment was try to write a pice of code in Python to run on Rhinoceros, to obtain the Archimedean screw.
All the work was not soo triky but I had some problems with the sweep 1 rail function(maybe a bug); so the saftware still have some problem.
