17.APPLICATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS
May 25, 2016
This week's assignment is to propose a final project that integrates the range of units covered.
My final project theme is "Making the module to hand down techniques of craftsman". I want many people to experience of making Japanese paper, so I'll make the module to hand down techniques of craftsman.
Then, I decided to make "The machine to make a bamboo blind (made of pieces of split bamboo or reeds tied together)".
1.What will it do?
I'll make the machine capable of designing how to knit wraps when make a bamboo blind. But wraps have very important role in "Su", because patterns of wraps appear on a Japanese paper. And I think that we will be able to make the Japanese paper of various designs if we can design it freely.2.Who's done what beforehand?
I made my original tool to make a bamboo blind. But I only redesigned the tool used for a long time.
3.What materials and components will be required?
[For diy arduino]- single sided PCB board (etch, mill or order) x1
- ATmega328P (28 pin DIL) x1
- IC socket 28 pin DIL (optional) x1
- 6×1 0.1” female pin header x1
- 8×1 0.1” female pin header x1
- 6×1 0.1” pin header (FTDI connector) x1
- 10k resistor (reset pull up – 1/4W) x1
- 1k resistor (power and pin 13 LED – 1/4W) x1
- Green 3mm LED (pin 13) x1
- Red 3mm LED (power) x1
- 16 MHz crystal (0.2” pitch) x1
- 18pF decoupling caps x1
- 6mm miniature switch (reset) x1
- 0.1uF decoupling cap 0.1/0.2”(aref and power) x1
- 1uF cap 0.1/0.2” (optional if power is good) x1
- Jumper wire
[For a main body of machine]
- 300mmx600mmWood board x3
- 900mmxΦ6.0mm Metal piple x2
- Stepper motor x1
- Adafruit Motorshield kit x1
- Button x1
- Screws
[For "Su"]
- 600mmxΦ1.8mm Bamboo sticks
- Yarns
4.Where will they come from?

- amazon.co.jp : http://www.amazon.co.jp/
- Super VIVAHOME : https://www.vivahome.co.jp/hc/
5.How much will it cost?
Around $1506.What parts and systems will be made?
- Blades circuit- Management software on Processing
7.What processes will be used?
(1) The main body of knitting tool- Laser cutting
- 3D Printing and milling
(2) Stepping motor control circuit
- 3D Milling
8.What tasks need to be completed?
(1)Mechanical design and making of the main body of knitting tool(2)Circuit design and making for controlling stepping motor
(3)Coding software for controlling the module to change the position of wraps (stepping motor control)
9.What questions need to be answered?
Have you ever made Japanese paper? And what kind of tool did you use?10.What is the schedule?
- 6/1~/11 Make prototype and coding- 6/12~6/15 Make final model and Debug
- 6/16,17 Adjusting device and machine
- 6/18,19,20 Make presentation sheet
11.How will it be evaluated?
I'm going to have FabLab SENDAI's members and craftsman use it and get feedback.(I want to make Japanese paper with a bamboo blind that we made if possible...!)

[the progress of final project]
In this week, I tried to make my original Arduino and used "Naninno" as reference . (I call this "Kawaiino". I want to make various electrical device "Kawaii"!)
