computer-controlled cutting

The assignment for this week is to create press fit kit to be realised using cardboard and the laser cutter, the kit must be parametric.

The second assignment consist to design and produce a sticker with the vynil cutter.

Press fit kit

Unfortunately after few tests I only had the chance to try some basic shapes and achieve the minimum goal of create a correct fit joint for the kind of cardboard that i have used.

Anyway I really enjoied trying the lasercut

and i hope to have the possibility to study this technology more and improve this 3rd week with a more complex fit kit

One of the main problems was to find the exact fit for the cardboard that i have chosen, but with the help of the calliper (Thank's to Frank) after few tries i figured it out quite easily

following the inkscape file of the "circles" fit

Vynil Cutter

A vinyl cutter is a type of computer controlled machine. Small vinyl cutters look like computer printers. The computer controls the movement of a sharp blade. This blade is used to cut out shapes and letters from sheets of thin self-adhesive plastic (vinyl).

The vynil vector works only with vectors, I decided to make a sticker for my laptop, using the most famous phrase of one of my favourite anime: One Piece!

I created the file with Inkscape, for the cut we had available a Roland CAMM-1 SERVO GX-24,the software works smooth and the cut is quite fast, the only "tricky" stuff is removing the cutted part from the vynil and attach it to the laptop
