class7: Computer-controlled machining

TI made big size circular loom in this assignment. It’s a main part of my final project. but Its could use for manual loom by itself.

Design processes

I made 2D data by illustrator. I would made up all holes for final project. So I included three functions of Final project in the bourd design.

1. Main board disign it made in class 2.

Spindle speed : 18000r.p.m.

Feed rate :10.0mm/sec

Tool : 6mm endmill (for metal)

Process

1. Setting Board. It must be aligned with base stage line.

2. Fix the board with base stage using screw.

3. Set the ZERO point of work area. In this time, left side and near side of operator is ZERO.

If I endmill move to ZERO point, I MachCNC's axis parameter set to ZERO putting button of "X", "Y", and"Z".

4. Import G-code file and check the path

5. Execute!

I could cut up Φ900mm size loom.

I would make Φ4mm holes in board but bit is 6mm.

So after millings I made Φ4mm holes by drill press.

Its drill press couldn’t rock my big loom!

Therefore My senior SUda helped me to make holes.

Next step I made reinforcing parts by MDF. I though Using by deferent Materials has improved durability bourd. I cutted off the reinforcing Ring separated to 4 parts. then I jointed them by joint methods.

Next step

I made Focking parts by useing Lazer cutter.

The reason that I used Lazer cutter for that part is its parts are breakable and many smoll parts.

I used universal vls4.6. The cutting condition is as follows:

Material : MDF T=9mm

Laser Power : 40W x 100%

I asenbried part like this. When weave up cloth, It fock make easy to remove warps form boarad as like this.

Try to weave

I tried to use My loom with my firiend. They are mumber of my workshop group for study Nanduti. At first I put warp radially on the loom.

Then, We passed the wefts through the warp. We used “MIMIYAAN” for wefts. “MIMIYAAN” is piece of fibric cloths, that ware produced in a plant.

Fainally we weaved up circumlar carpet.

But This work took 3.5 hour by four persons.

the reason is 1. narrow gaps between the radially warps 2. returning point for wefts hard to find. 3. easily mistake weft’s pass

Based on this experience I tried to make final project.
