WEEK 2

COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN

Assignment

  • Model (draw, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project post it on your class page with original 2D and 3D files.

Learning outcomes

  • Evaluate and select 2D and 3D software
  • Demonstrate and describe processes used in modelling with 2D and 3D software

Assignement's files

This week's assignment require to test 3D modelling software a model a possible final project

I started to evaluate software on assignement page.

  • SketchUp They claims tha it is intended to model anything but its interface wasn't clear for me
  • 123D It can really usefull bercause a large library of ready made of 3D model, but i have to uderstand how the CAD software works first
  • TinkercadGreat on-line 3D software but i prefer a local software due to better performances
  • ShapesmithOpen Source parametric sotware, too advanced for my skills now
  • FloodOn line parametric sotware, too advanced for my skills now
  • Solid WOrks It seems very powerfull as it price!
  • Rhinoceros + Grassopher It has a 60 days of trial and it's largely documented, furthemore in my lab everyone use it , so it's my choice

I never used a CAD or 3D modelling software so i spent most of the time learning how they works. To learn Rhino I followed some tutorial on-line like this

I started drawing a shape that shoud be a solar panel

The a possible fan

The metal tube

The Peltier Cells

And the water container

Honestly I didn't understand yet how to use it correclty and 'i'm still learning
