Version 1: Water from Air Machine (On week 1)
After reviewing lots of past projects and ideas, First I decided for making a device that obtains water from the air.
At this time, I don’t know the technology needed for each part, but I`ll be very glad on researching during the Fab Academy.
The scope of this project is not making potable water, but water for plants irrigation and human shower among others.
1.-Air capturing System. I guess the easiest part of the project. The goal is to capture the most air volume as possible. Maybe design helps to reach the most surface posible in contact with the air.
2.-Water Condensation Mechanism. To achieve water be condensed, Air needs to reach some low temperatures. It's possible in natural way when the temperature reaches the dew point.
3.-Water Collection System. Once the water is condensed, I need to colect the resulting water, and keep it in a clean and safety container.
4.-Variables monitoring system. To investigate wheater or not the place where water form air device is going to be.
Project Schedulle
This are the activities to make the Water from Air Machine.
Version 2: Fogcatcher and Monitoring System (Change made on On week 6 )
I will change the scope of mi final project, as described here:
My project will be a set for researchers: a Fogcatcher and a Monitoring Sustem of some measures, that together allows to know if one place is good for installing bigger fogcatchers.
The fogcatcher will be a structure easy to assembly and disassembly, so it can be moved many times to many places to evaluate if those places are good for the purpose of the research.
The Monitoring System, electronic devices, built in FabAcademy assignments, measure temperature and humidity in the point where fogcatchers (or other Water From Air Machine) will be located, then the dew point is calculated. It ll allow the designers of fogcatchers to determin the best place to put bigger fogcatchers or another device to condense water from the air. This is because with this devices we can know the avergage time that a point reaches the dew point. It also helps to determine the frequency and duration of foggy periods.
Schedulle
This is the schedulle for the version 2 of the project
I will make a system that can read the temperature and humidity, display it in a little screen and send it to be visualized, in a PC or via Internet.
Inspiration
For the fogctcher part I was inspired in these ideas:
Warka Water, that is a environmentally, and sustainable solution to have water. Combines a nice design with a functional and practical solution.
The FogCatchers, that are used in some places where there is heavy flog like in Lomas de Lachay or Lomas in Villa Maria in my city Lima. They are helping some people to have more water and to irrigate .
