Week 17: Applications and Implications.

Overview

For this week's assignment, It was required to Propose a final project integrating all the units covered..

Fire are increasing nowadays especially because the weather change, the global warming, and thus, the heat is increasing causing fires to rise quickly and easily.

According to statistics, lots of fire causes are domestic, whether equipments and appliances or candles or even smoking. So, the final project I am suggesting is "Fire monitoring drone".

The Drone will go in surveing and monitoring tasks in neighberhood, communication visual reports and sending alarm messages to fire centers if fire is detected.

Details:

The drone will be a simple structure Whether made of acrylic cut using the laser cutter or 3D printed one, equiped with 4 motors for the flight.

the Drone will have a small camera catching reported pictures and also smoke sensors for any fire etection.

The drone will communicate wirelessly with the fire station.

Processes which will be used:

There are various processes that will be included in this project:

  • Computer design: For the structure design.
  • Computer-Controlled cutting: For the cutting of the structure.
  • Possibly 3D Printing: : as an alternative for the structure.
  • Electronics design and Production: For the implementation of the control circuit.
  • Networking and communication: for the communication between the drone and the fire station.

    For implementing such project I need:

  • Specify the desig requirements for the drone.
  • Research the components, design ideas and estimate the budget.
  • Start designing the structure.
  • Buying the components and implementing the structure.
  • Designing the control.
  • Do the programming.
  • Bring it all together.
  • Testing and Tuning.
  • Final Test
  • Final Presentation.
  • The Schedule and how to be evaluated:

    For the upcoming week (or 10 days), the main task will be the research and specification of the design requirements of the drone, finishing task 1 & 2.

    For the week after, There will be the design of the drone.

    For 1 weeks and half, the programming and the test will be done.

    And finally, before the final presentation, the project to be assembled and tested.

    The Evaluation will be mainly based on the mastery of technical skills used in the projects, from design, to electronics, to networking and image processing.

    Moreover, an evaluation for the project, on its final operation. Did it perform the required task of flying, taking pictures and reporting, and detection of smoke and report using messages?
