Christian's project ideas
My project could be an electrochemical metal 3D printer. SECM (scanning electrochemical microscope) exist since 1989, but are used as analytical tools. The idea is to make one, and use it as microscale electro-deposition tool.
The essential parts are:
-
- the potentiostat(s). There are many open-sources schemes out there, and that may well be a project in itself.
-
- the gantry, adapted to XYZ-move the working electrode in the liquid-filled tank. Motors could be enough, but piezzo maybe necessary.
-
- integration
The tough part is the control of the distance between electrode and substrate.
Alternative projects:
-
- The potentiostat can be the first element of a mobile analytical laboratory. It could be nice to add a small spectrometer.
-
- Unexperienced users produce lots of plastic waste with 3D printers. A recycling process could be useful.
