Types of licenses used in the maker community
The Fab Lab License protects the owner's right to recognition and denies liability and has no other restrictions. It applies to all types of projects.
The MIT License is a software license that allows for "use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies".Its purpose is to share information without creating liability for the institute. It allows you to do almost anything with the software, except for claiming ownership or claim MIT is responsible if anything goes wrong.
The Creative Commons Licenses: as a non-profit organisation the "Creative Commons" is widely used in artistic contexts. My work called " Lumina Smart Gadget " is licensed under a
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. My work can be modified and used in non-commercial contexts, and it has to remain under the same license. In detail People are free to:
Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
INVENTION
The "Lumina Smart Gadget" adds to that by reacting to the environment around its wearer. It glows customizable palettes of light color based on ambient sound.
The goal of this project is to create a prototype of digital jewelry inspiring designers of the future and supply the Fab Lab community with more ideas for making.
AKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The codes I used in the Lab are based on existing open source codes, libraries, plugins shared by an online community.I want to aknowledge the sources:
The Arduino code strandtest.ino is based on the ADAFRUIT NEOPIXEL LIBRARY and I have also tested the code LED COLOR ORGAN found on the Adafruit website.
DISSEMINATION AND INCOME
The dissemination of the project will be pursued through design contexts, advertising and by submitting the work to online platforms focused on the themes of:
- jewelry design
- wearables
- computational design
- digital fabrication
In terms of income the project was not developed with a commercial purpose.I will develop an effective sales strategy when the project will be ready.
